Employment Act, 1955
The Employment Act of 1955 is the main legislation on labour matters in Malaysia. It applies to Peninsula Malaysia and Labuan. It provides minimum terms of employment to those recognized as employees under the Act. It contains provisions on, among others, leave, overtime and wages. It is complemented by other employment laws such as the Children and Young persons (Employment) Act of 1966 and the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1994. The latter among others requires the employer to formulate a workplace safety and health policy and regularly revise such policy to align it with changes and best practices as reported by business.
