Law Concerning the Promotion of Business Activities with Environmental Consideration, 2005

Japan Current 2005

A public access to environmental information law, this law requires ‘specified entities’ to publish an environmental report every year. The term “environmental report” means any document, regardless of its title, concerning the state of environmental conditions (including data indicating the environmental load generated by business activities) during a business or financial year, prepared by specified corporations. The Environment Ministry has used the law to encourage national entities such as Japan Post, Japan Broadcasting Corporation and Japan Railways to publish environmental reports and thus act as role models for other organisations.
