National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), 1998

South Africa Current 1998

The environmental impact assessment regime under the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) requires that activities’ potential impact on the environment be assessed and reported to competent authorities. As is the case with various environmental topics, disclosure of information is often only to the authorities, and related public reporting is voluntary. The public is however entitled to get access to the information in terms of the  Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA 2000).
