The Code for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) provides a voluntary framework designed to support and guide the corporate governance evolution of SMEs in Dubai. Section B (Pillar 1) states that companies should establish clear lines of communication with their shareholders ensuring timely and accurate disclosure of information on the company’s activities, including the financial situation, performance, ownership and governance of the company. The Code among others refer to the role of a committed and effective board with independent non-executive directors in providing assurance to shareholders and stakeholders about the integrity of the corporation’s reported financial performance.
