Report on Corporate Governance, 1999. Five Years to the Dey

}

Summary

Under the leadership of Peter J. Dey, a prominent lawyer and one-time chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission, the TSE's Corporate Governance Committee report heralded a new era of increased attention to the responsibilities of Canadian boards as stewards of shareholder value. The TSE adopted the Committee's 14 recommendations as best practice guidelines for listed companies. To that end, the TSE and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) undertook this Five Years to the Dey survey of the current state of corporate governance among TSE-listed companies. Many of the largest companies that account for the greatest proportion of Canadian equity investment are leaders in corporate governance.
