EU Resolution on Palm Oil and Deforestation

A discussion paper published in 2017 which is aimed at revising the EU commitment to halting deforestation. The paper explores ways to increase traceability in the palm oil supply chain facilitating sustainable sourcing through minimum criteria for imports, educating consumers on the cost of unsustainable palm oil, improving land ownership rights in supplier nations and implementing raw material supply chain traceability for all agricultural commodities imported into the EU. It has passed debate in the EP and has now been passed on to the Commission, who released a response statement, but no indications to when it will be passed.
