National Pollutant Inventory

Australia Current 1998

The National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) requires industrial companies to report emissions and inventories for specific substances and fuel to regulatory authorities for inclusion in a public database.

The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPaC) is working in partnership with state and territory governments to improve the NPI. As a basis for the enhancements, the NPI has undertaken consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders from around Australia. Consultation will be ongoing and stakeholders will continue to be involved, for example through testing elements of the enhancements.
