The rule applies to the oil and gas, mining and metals, energy and fossil fuels, and chemical sectors, among others. It determines the GHG Protocol to be the accepted accounting methodology and requires companies to annually report on scope 1 and 2 emissions. Prior to submission, the GHG inventory must be verified by a qualified entity.
