The Stock Exchange of Mauritius Sustainability Index (SEMSI)

SEMSI tracks the price-performance of those companies listed on the Official Market or the Development & Enterprise Market which demonstrate strong sustainability practices. SEMSI provides a robust measure of listed companies against a set of internationally aligned and locally relevant environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. It offers a useful tool for domestic and international investors with an appetite for responsible investment in frontier markets, All listed companies which meet the eligibility requirements for participation in the Sustainability Assessment, as set out in section 3.1 above and wish to be considered for inclusion in the Index must go through the Sustainability Assessment exercise and submit a duly filled sustainability questionnaire (the Questionnaire) to the SEM.

The criteria of SEMSI assessment are based on GRI G4 guidelines and are aligned with international ESG and relaed sustainability issues, and also taking local imperactive into account. 4 ESG key pillars for SEMSI criteria are: Economic, Environmental, Social and Corporate governance.
