This law that regulates access to environmental information, transposing into national law Directive 2003/4/CE of the European Parliament and Council of 28 January. The law establishes the right of citizens to access information held by public authorities related to the environment, including information on emissions, waste management, and environmental permits. The law also requires public authorities to proactively disclose environmental information, such as monitoring data and reports, and to ensure that this information is accessible to the public. The law is an important tool for promoting transparency and participation in environmental decision-making in Portugal.
